Can Lip Fillers Fix A Gummy Smile?

Lip fillers give us plump sexy lips that look good enough to kiss.  People consider fuller lips to be attractive because they are a sign of youth and vitality.  Large eyes and luscious lips are attributes we consider highly attractive that’s why we love babies and puppies so much.  Ladies in particular rate highly in the beauty stakes if they have these qualities.

Our lips get thinner as we age due to a reduction in collagen and fat in our bodies.  Young starlets like Kylie Jenner plump up their lips to increase their sex appeal. Thin lips affect our smile by sliding up our teeth and exposing our gums.  A gummy smile is not particularly attractive and causes people to feel self-conscious.

If your smile concerns you because you reveal too much of your gum line lip fillers will improve your appearance in two ways. First of all your lips will be fuller and more sensual and secondly, you will be able to smile without exposing your gums.  Lip fillers involve injecting collagen or hyaluronic acid into the lips. Both methods produce a natural pout resulting in a youthful appearance.

What Are Lip Fillers?

Lip fillers are a cosmetic procedure to increase the volume of your lips. The procedure involves injecting either collagen or hyaluronic acid into your lips.  Collagen increases the volume of the lips on its own while hyaluronic acid traps water in your lips to create a natural plumpness. The effect is very natural and enhances your appearance without giving you a ‘trout pout’.

Lots of people, including Kylie Jenner, are reluctant to admit to having lip fillers due to judgemental comments. It is important to go to a reputable practice to have the treatment otherwise you may suffer the same disfigurement as Leslie Ash.  The actress became more famous for her ‘duck lips’ than her successful acting career. Her procedure was a failure because the mother of her friend injected liquid silicone into her lips. Thankfully silicon is not used as a lip filler in the UK any more.

Heart Lips are a specific procedure resulting in heart-shaped lips and a prominent cupid’s bow. Results of a  study by Dr Bob Khanna, the designer of the procedure, suggests heart shaped lips are the most beautiful shape for lips.  He considers young women with oval faces to be the best candidate for the procedure.

It takes a few sessions to achieve the perfect look and a few days for the lips to settle.  Hyaluronic acid fillers last longer than collagen fillers and they are removable if you don’t like them.

What Causes A Gummy Smile?

We all love smiling especially when we update our Facebook profile.  There is nothing more disconcerting than looking like a horse in your photos. Reasons for showing your gums when you smile include; lots of gum tissue, an overactive upper lip muscle or an overgrown jaw.  The lips slip over the teeth revealing the tops of the teeth and pink gums.

Dental procedures help to rectify structural issues such as too much gum tissue or a prominent jawline.  Lip fillers help to relax the muscles in your lip preventing it from rising too high they also make your lip thicker so it covers your gums more effectively.  Your dentist will be able to advise you which treatment is best for you.
